James Villarrubia


James is an innovative technologist dedicated to fostering positive social change through engineering and applied artificial intelligence. As the Presidential Innovation Fellow for NASA Aeronautics, James is helping develop sustainable, next-generation aviation and AI solutions. On behalf of NASA, he co-hosts the Ecosystemic Futures podcast which delves into technological advancements poised to shape the future of society.

For Envoy clients, James offers insights into AI's foundations, capabilities, limitations, and ethical considerations. Drawing on his extensive background in technology and AI, he delivers engaging keynotes that combine practicality, real-world examples, and a touch of humor.

Prior to his role at NASA, James served as a tech executive and advisor for various startups, spanning healthcare, cryptography, workplace equity, and online education. His educational AI venture advanced to the semi-finals of the global IBM AI X-Prize Competition. James also brings a wealth of experience in policy and portfolio management, having worked in Washington, DC with the White House, DOJ, and DOD. He holds multiple cryptography patents, a Master’s in Public Policy, a BS in Systems Engineering, and is currently pursuing an MBA at MIT.
